Our areas of specialisation include business venture establishment (including incorporation of companies, limited liability partnerships, registration of business names, etc), corporate regulatory compliance, preparation of commercial agreements, joint venture structuring, enforcement and drafting of collateral agreements. We offer intuitive insights into complex corporate transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, take-overs and cross border transactions.  We provide our clients with advice on deal structuring, due diligence, legal regulatory compliance requirements, disclosures and closings, private equity and venture capital, share splits, share swaps, share subscriptions, shareholder agreements and other corporate and commercial agreements.

Advising clients on the negotiation and drafting of all agreements in the mining business, including agreements for dealing , exploration, mining and other services in the mining business, and agreements for acquisition and disposal of mineral rights. * Advising clients on all permits required under Ugandan law to conduct operations under all types of mineral rights, and the requirements for retention of such permits;

Sheila Namahe

The Firm’s managing Partner, Sheila Namahe, who heads up the China Practice, has studied, lived and worked in China. OWAYEZU MARK is a qualified lawyer holding a Bachelor of Laws with honours of Makerere University and an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all Courts of Judicature. Mercy Kiwanuka

Mercy joined Maxim Advocates ini September 2015. She holds an honours law degree from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre having received the Uganda Law Society Award for being the third best overall student of the year 2014/2015. She is an associate with the firm and is involved in legal research, preparation of briefs and transaction documents. Her areas of expertise are corporate and commercial law, employment and land transactions.

Jonathan Treacher

With over 30 years of legal and corporate experience, including being a Board member of publicly quoted firms, Jonathan brings a wealth of experience to the Firm. Jonathan has been admitted to the Bar in the Illinois, Florida and Washington DC and has been in Uganda for over 12 years. He has a Juris Doctor Degree from DePaul University College of Law and an MBA from the London Business School. He also has a Certificate in Public and Private International Law from the Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands. Jonathan also heads up the office in London.
